Janet Hubert Talks Current Relationship with Will Smith
Janet Hubert recently opened up about her friendship with Will Smith, revealing they have a positive relationship now. This comes after the two actors settled a long-standing feud that lasted nearly 30 years.
Hubert, who played Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, discussed their friendship during an interview on V-103 radio station in Atlanta. When asked about their current relationship, she responded with a smile, saying, “It’s so good.”
The original Aunt Viv, Hubert was part of the show from its start in 1990 until she left after the third season in 1993 due to what she described as “creative differences.” She was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid. Following her departure, tensions between Hubert and Smith developed publicly, but they reconciled during the show’s 30-year reunion special on HBO Max in 2020.
Reflecting on this reconciliation, Hubert mentioned that it felt like a full-circle moment. She noted that their previous conflicts included some harsh exchanges, but she now appreciates how Smith has supported her projects, even creating a website for her indie animated feature JG and the BC Kids.
Both Hubert and Smith have shared regrets about their past issues and expressed happiness about their renewed friendship. In past interviews, Hubert mentioned that they regularly communicate, and she felt a deep connection when they hugged during their reunion.
Smith also acknowledged his mistakes regarding Hubert in a 2024 interview, admitting he underestimated her contribution to the show and their lives at the time. As they continue to strengthen their friendship, it’s clear both are focused on moving forward positively.
