James Remar Reflects on His ‘Sex and the City’ Role
While attending the premiere of Dexter: Resurrection in New York City, actor James Remar shared his thoughts about his character, Richard, from Sex and the City. In a light-hearted conversation, Remar argued that he wasn’t the worst boyfriend in the series, despite what some fans might think.
Remar, 71, looked back on his on-again, off-again relationship with Samantha, portrayed by Kim Cattrall. He stated, “I’m the best boyfriend on the show,” while recalling a discussion with Michael Patrick King, a key writer for the series. When he asked King why their relationship ended, King told him, “We only introduce love on this show to have it fail.”
Despite the challenges his character faced, Remar felt there was genuine love between Richard and Samantha, highlighting that the failure of their relationship was part of the show’s narrative.
When questioned about a possible return to Sex and the City, Remar expressed skepticism, saying he would be surprised if he received a call. “I am sure it’ll be difficult to say no, but I’m an old guy. They’re not going to call me,” he remarked humorously.
At the premiere, Remar was also excited about reprising his role as Harry Morgan in the Dexter reboot. He described this version as “totally new and completely different,” promising an engaging experience for both him and viewers.
Reflecting on his time working with co-star Michael C. Hall, Remar praised Hall’s dedication, noting how challenging it is to perform alongside him, given Hall’s focus and precision.
As Remar continues to evolve as an actor, his journey shows a commitment to both his past roles and new projects, reminding us that although characters may leave the screen, their impact remains.
