Watley’s friends contacted her sister, Elaina, who subsequently reached out to Harden’s sister, the mother of Blackburn. In the lawsuit, Watley alleges that her sister was able to send a photo to Harden’s security team, indicating that Watley was still at the location. However, the security team reportedly dismissed their concerns, stating that there was a woman present with Blackburn, but it was not Watley.
The lawsuit emphasizes that if Harden’s security staff had acted more responsibly, it could have potentially prevented the alleged assault. Watley expressed her distress over the events, stating, “Since New Year’s Day, when I reported the rape by Mr. Blackburn to the police, I have remained puzzled by how Mr. Harden’s security behaved that day—it is painful to imagine that this all could have been stopped in time.” She hopes that the lawsuit will encourage security workers to prioritize the safety of individuals, especially women, in vulnerable situations.
As of now, no legal representation has been reported for Blackburn. Efforts to reach out to Harden’s management and the Clippers for comments have been made but have yet to yield any responses.
