James Gunn Discusses Upcoming Amanda Waller Series
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, recently confirmed that the much-anticipated Amanda Waller series is still in the works. Speaking at the premiere of Peacemaker season two, Gunn expressed enthusiasm for Viola Davis’s return as the formidable character.
“We’re working on it, and we’ll see what happens,” Gunn said, noting that some aspects of the project have advanced faster than others. However, he acknowledged that Waller’s development has taken its time.
Despite the delays, Gunn expressed excitement about seeing Davis don the iconic character again, citing her strong performance in previous films. He assured fans that quality remains a top priority, emphasizing that they won’t move forward with production until the script is finalized. This commitment to quality sets DC Studios apart in a crowded industry.
Co-CEO Peter Safran shared similar thoughts earlier this year, noting that the project has encountered a few hurdles. “Waller has been a bumpy road,” he told interviewers, revealing that they have been working diligently to overcome these challenges.
While the Waller series faces its share of complications, Gunn and Safran are confident in the direction of the Peacemaker story, which promises to delve deeper into John Cena’s character in the upcoming season. Gunn highlighted that the new season will explore the character’s struggles in a more profound way as he confronts his past.
Looking ahead, Gunn is also busy with other DC projects, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns. Fans can expect more news from DC Studios as these exciting ventures continue to unfold.
