Longtime Activist Jesse Jackson Hospitalized
Reverend Jesse Jackson, a well-known figure in civil rights, was admitted to a hospital this Wednesday. His organization shared this information in a public statement.
Jackson, who is 84 years old, is being watched closely by doctors. He is dealing with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a rare health problem that affects the brain. Currently, there is no cure for PSP.
The Rainbow PUSH Coalition, which Jackson started in 1996, mentioned that he has been managing his PSP for over ten years. Initially, he was thought to have Parkinson’s disease, but doctors confirmed the PSP diagnosis last April. His family is asking for everyone to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.
Jackson first spoke about having Parkinson’s disease in 2017. He said that it took him some time to fully understand how the illness would affect him.
Throughout his life, Jackson has been involved in important social and political movements. He worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and has been a voice for many Americans. In recent years he has faced health challenges, including surgery and a bout with COVID-19.
In 2023, Jackson stepped down as the leader of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, passing the role to Reverend Frederick Douglass Haynes III.
