An Iowa man has received a sentence of up to 55 years in prison after kidnapping his former girlfriend in September.
Troy Mure Jr., 33, who had a past conviction for vehicular homicide nearly ten years ago, pleaded guilty to charges that included second-degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary on January 10, as reported by the Polk County Attorney’s Office.
The attorney’s office stated that Mure admitted to being armed when he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home on September 21. He then compelled her to get into his car and drove away with her.
In court, Mure expressed that he wanted to keep their location a secret.
District Judge Joseph Seidlin mandated that Mure serve his sentences one after the other as part of a plea deal. He will be eligible for parole after serving 22 and a half years.
Mure was also assigned to participate in a Victim-Offender Dialogue, a program organized by the Iowa Department of Corrections. This program allows the victim to have a voluntary meeting with the offender, facilitated by a trained mediator, should the survivor choose to meet.
Previously, Mure was found guilty of vehicular homicide in 2016 after a fatal crash that occurred in November 2015, which killed 22-year-old Scalicity Boyd. Mure was reportedly driving at 86 miles per hour before colliding with a utility pole and had served a minimum term of three years before being released.
During a previous interview with a local news outlet, Boyd’s mother expressed her pain regarding her daughter’s death, describing Mure’s new charges as “a fresh new wound.” She voiced her belief that justice had not been served, citing Mure’s history as evidence of the problems with the justice system.
