Celebrating 35 Years of Pretty Woman
Today marks the 35th anniversary of the beloved romantic comedy Pretty Woman, which first graced screens on March 23, 1990. This film, which features the undeniable chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, has become a classic in its genre despite receiving mixed reviews at the start. Over the years, it has captured the hearts of many, solidifying its place in pop culture.
Julia Roberts, who played the iconic role of Vivian Ward, shared that she had to persuade Richard Gere to take on the role of Edward Lewis. During a discussion on Entertainment Weekly Radio, Roberts reflected on how difficult it was to find the right actor for the part. “I pleaded with him in a real way,” she admitted, emphasizing her belief that if Gere didn’t join the project, it could all fall apart. Somehow, her convincing words worked—a classic was born.
In the real world, Roberts found her own love story with cinematographer Daniel Moder. They met while working on the film The Mexican in 2000, but it wasn’t until two years later that they tied the knot. Today, they are the proud parents of three kids, including 20-year-old twins and a 17-year-old son.
Richard Gere, who portrayed the dashing Edward, also found lasting love with Alejandra Silva. Although the two had known each other for many years, their romantic relationship didn’t begin until 2014, culminating in a wedding in April 2018. They now have two young boys together. Gere recently shared plans to move his family to Spain, a decision influenced by Silva’s roots.
Jason Alexander, who played Phillip Stuckey, has enjoyed a quieter family life than his character would suggest. He has been married to Daena Title since 1982, and their union has stood the test of time, with Alexander attributing their success to understanding and support for each other.
Other cast members have also enjoyed fulfilling lives and relationships beyond the screen. Larry Miller, known for his role as Mr. Hollister, married Eileen Conn in 1993, while Hector Elizondo, who impressed as hotel manager Barney Thompson, has been happily married to Carolee Campbell for more than five decades.
As we celebrate this iconic film, it’s clear that many of its stars found their own versions of love and happiness, proving that some of life’s best stories offscreen can be just as captivating as those shown in the movies.
