A New York woman has been arrested and charged with murder after her young child was found dead in their home.
Police say that on Monday, officers responded to a call and found 15-month-old Charlie Ramraykha unresponsive in a home in Queens, New York. The child’s mother, 28-year-old Nicole Boodhai, was also at the scene with cuts on her wrists.
Both Charlie and Nicole were taken to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Charlie was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Nicole was treated and is in stable condition.
Neighbors reported hearing loud screams coming from the home around the time of the incident. One neighbor said they heard what sounded like a man yelling aggressively, followed by a child screaming in fear.
According to reports, Nicole allegedly called Charlie’s father and told him that she had killed their child. She then apparently tried to take her own life.
Authorities found pills near the child in the bathroom, suggesting he may have ingested them. The official cause of Charlie’s death is still under investigation.
Nicole Boodhai has been charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child. The reason for the alleged crime is not yet known. It is also unclear if she has a lawyer.
