A person in the country illegally from Cuba was arrested after officials say he used his car as a weapon against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in San Antonio.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Robyn Argote Brooks rammed two ICE vehicles in a parking lot while trying to get away.
Video of the event shows Brooks in a car surrounded by ICE vehicles. He is seen going in reverse, nearly hitting an agent, and then hitting a federal SUV. He then drove forward into another ICE vehicle as agents tried to stop him.
Eventually, an agent broke a window and pulled Brooks out of the car to arrest him. This event happened on Tuesday.
DHS reports a big increase in attacks on ICE agents using vehicles. They say there were 66 such attacks between January 21, 2025, and January 7, 2026, compared to only two in the same period the year before.
Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said that one of the ICE officers was hurt. She criticized politicians who support sanctuary cities, saying they “have encouraged illegal aliens to evade arrest” and “have created an environment that incites violence against our law enforcement.” She also mentioned a large increase in assaults against ICE agents.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said that immigration agents are facing “constant impediments” and “constant attacks.” He blamed elected officials who encourage people to interfere with ICE operations, saying their words lead to incidents like this one, where someone uses a car as a weapon against law enforcement.
