Iga Świątek has made history as the Wimbledon champion for 2025. The Polish tennis player delivered a stunning performance, defeating American Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-0, 6-0. This victory marks Świątek’s first title at Wimbledon and her sixth Grand Slam win overall.
With this achievement, she becomes the first Polish athlete to win the women’s singles title at Wimbledon in the Open Era. The final, held on July 12, lasted just 57 minutes, making it particularly remarkable as Anisimova did not manage to secure a single game—an unprecedented event in women’s finals at Wimbledon for over a century.
Currently ranked No. 4 in the world, Świątek showed dominant form leading to the final, barely breaking a sweat against her semifinal opponent, fellow player Belinda Bencic, where she lost only two games. This win also ends a year-long drought for her, with her last championship win occurring in June 2024 at Roland Garros.
Expressing her surprise after the match, Świątek stated, “Honestly, I didn’t even dream [of this].” She emphasized her appreciation for her team’s support, noting they believed in her even when she didn’t fully believe in herself.
The match was certainly a challenging one for Anisimova, who struggled with 28 unforced errors throughout the game. In stark contrast, Świątek won 55 out of 79 points, showcasing her remarkable skill on the court with only 10 necessary winners.
Świątek, who previously held the top rank in the WTA from 2022 to 2024, faced challenges leading up to this match, including a suspension last year due to a doping issue, which was later attributed to accidental contamination. However, she has proved once again why she is among the top players in the sport, solidifying her place in tennis history with her latest triumph.
