A Colorado man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who vanished on Mother’s Day in 2020 while biking. Her disappearance came shortly after she told her husband, Barry Morphew, that she wanted to end their marriage.
Suzanne, a mother of two daughters, was last seen near their home in Maysville, Colorado. Her remains were discovered more than three years later in Saguache County.
In May 2021, Barry was arrested and charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and attempting to influence a public servant. He pleaded not guilty but had his case dismissed in April 2022 without prejudice, allowing prosecutors the option to refile charges later. Authorities indicated at that time they believed they were close to locating Suzanne’s body in a nearby mountainous area.
Recently, a grand jury indicted Barry on a first-degree murder charge. He was taken into custody in Arizona on the same day, with plans for his extradition back to Colorado. The reasons behind the renewed charges were not immediately clear, but officials stated that the investigation continued even after the initial charges were dropped.
Anne Kelly, the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney, expressed the commitment of local law enforcement to seek justice for Suzanne and her family.
