Plus-Size Model Claims Unsolicited Weight Advice on Flight
Tess Holliday, a plus-size model, recently shared an experience she had while flying first class on United Airlines with her son. According to Holliday, a flight attendant told her that losing weight would be in her best interest.
Holliday stated that the flight attendant brought up his sister, who he said was also a large woman. He told Holliday that his sister had faced discrimination on a flight and needed to lose weight for her health. Holliday said that this conversation lasted around 10 minutes, leaving her in shock.
Holliday shared that the flight was a special occasion for her son, as it was his first time flying first class since he was a baby. She expressed that while the flight attendant may have thought he was being helpful, his comments were inappropriate.
Following the incident, Holliday contacted United Airlines, who said they would address the situation with the flight attendant. Holliday mentioned that she did not want anyone to lose their job but suggested sensitivity training to prevent similar incidents in the future.
