As families across the nation prepare to gather for Thanksgiving, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has issued a call for both patience and perspective. Speaking at a press conference in Chicago, Duffy highlighted the expected surge in travel, with projections indicating that this Thanksgiving week will be one of the busiest on record.
The FAA anticipates a staggering 31 million Americans will take to the skies, while AAA estimates that 73 million will hit the roads. This influx of travelers underscores the enduring importance of family and tradition in American life, values that conservatives hold dear.
To manage the increased traffic, airports are implementing strategies to ensure safe and efficient travel. Secretary Duffy advised travelers to arrive early and maintain a positive attitude. This emphasis on personal responsibility and preparedness reflects a core conservative belief in self-reliance.
“Come a little early… don’t be rushing through the airport because the lines might be a little longer,” Duffy stated. “Tack on your best attitude, we’re gonna get through this and have a great Thanksgiving with our families.”
The Secretary also offered encouraging news for those traveling by car. “This travel season, by car, we have incredible gas prices… So, if you travel by car you’re going to be able to put gas in your vehicle at a very affordable price. On top of that, if you’re flying and you need to rent a car domestically, our car rental prices are down.” These lower prices can be seen as a direct result of policies that encourage domestic energy production and a thriving economy.
Beyond the practical considerations of travel, Secretary Duffy emphasized the importance of civility during this busy season. He reminded travelers of the new campaign, “The Golden Age of Travel Starts with You,” aimed at fostering kindness and respect. This initiative aligns with the conservative emphasis on personal character and the importance of traditional values in maintaining a harmonious society.
“Our civility campaign is all about asking ourselves — how can we all inject a little more kindness into travel this holiday season?” Duffy said, “Ushering in the return to the Golden Age of travel… and it starts with all of us.”
Secretary Duffy also took the opportunity to address broader issues affecting the nation’s transportation infrastructure. He called on Congress to allocate sufficient funding for the Department of Transportation’s efforts to modernize U.S. airspace. Investing in infrastructure is a critical component of ensuring continued economic growth and maintaining America’s competitive edge.
As Americans embark on their Thanksgiving journeys, it is important to remember the values that unite us: family, tradition, and a spirit of gratitude. By embracing personal responsibility, practicing civility, and supporting policies that foster a strong economy, we can ensure a prosperous and harmonious future for all.
