Hilaria Baldwin recently shared insights about her relationship with her stepdaughter, Ireland Baldwin, during an episode of their reality show, The Baldwins. With an 11-year age difference between them, Hilaria, who is 41, explained how they embrace this unique dynamic.
In her comments, Hilaria noted, “My relationship with Ireland is special for a stepmom and stepdaughter because that’s what we are. I’m 11 years older than her, and I didn’t raise her, but we always find humor in our situation.” This lighthearted approach has allowed them to bond over their differences rather than dwell on them.
Hilaria also reflected on how their family dynamic changed when both welcomed new babies close together. Hilaria and her husband, Alec Baldwin, welcomed their daughter, Ilaria, in September 2022, while Ireland became a mother to her daughter, Holland, in May 2023. Hilaria expressed joy in witnessing their children together, despite being physically distant for some time. She shared, "We FaceTime and talk often, but it’s wonderful to finally get the kids together for a play date."
Their closeness is clear as Hilaria humorously noted that her baby is technically Holland’s aunt, creating a unique family situation. Hilaria praised Ireland, saying she has always welcomed her with open arms. Prior to their marriage, Hilaria made it clear to Alec that if Ireland didn’t accept her, she wouldn’t stay in the family. Fortunately, Ireland embraced her immediately.
Hilaria expressed her gratitude for coming into a family where everyone had moved on from past issues. She acknowledged that both Alec and Ireland had a good relationship with Kim Basinger, Alec’s ex-wife, which eased her transition into the family. Hilaria respects Ireland’s bond with her mother and understands her role isn’t to take over parenting.
Reflecting on her journey with Ireland, Hilaria mentioned the importance of timing and respect when forming their relationship. She is committed to being supportive without overstepping boundaries.
