Henry Golding Discusses Potential James Bond Role
Henry Golding recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of taking over the iconic role of James Bond. In a recent interview, he expressed that the idea of stepping into 007’s shoes is quite daunting for any actor.
Golding, who attended the red carpet premiere of The Old Guard 2 in Los Angeles, described the prospect of playing Bond as "every actor’s kind of nightmare." He acknowledged the pressure that comes with such a well-known character.
While he recognizes the significance of the Bond franchise, he also sees the potential for fresh ideas. "Why can’t they bring out more agents or more OO’s?" Golding suggested, indicating that expanding the universe might offer more creative freedom and enjoyment, without being bound by high expectations.
He admitted, however, that he feels a bit overwhelmed by the cultural pressure that surrounds such a legendary role. "Maybe I’m just a p—-," he remarked, wishing that the next actor could take the role without that looming pressure.
The character of James Bond, created by British author Ian Fleming, first appeared in the novel Casino Royale in 1953. The role has seen various actors portray the beloved spy, with Sean Connery being the first in 1962’s Dr. No. Most recently, Daniel Craig played Bond, concluding his tenure in No Time To Die in 2021. After five films, Craig expressed a desire to "move on" from the role, leaving a new opportunity for the next actor.
Excitingly, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the next Bond movie, marking the 26th installment in the franchise’s long history. Though the project will see a fresh direction under new ownership from Amazon MGM, the casting for Bond has not yet been announced. Current contenders include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Rege-Jean Page.
Golding concluded by expressing confidence that whoever is chosen to play Bond will bring a fun new energy to the character. However, the release date for the upcoming film is still unconfirmed.
