Two officials from the Department of Defense have recently been placed on administrative leave amid an investigation into unauthorized leaks of sensitive information. Darin Selnick, the deputy chief of staff, was put on leave on Tuesday, following the earlier departure of his colleague, Dan Caldwell.
Selnick, a retired Air Force officer with extensive experience in veterans’ affairs, was confirmed to be under investigation for a leak probe that has raised concerns within the Pentagon. Both he and Caldwell, who previously worked together at Concerned Veterans for America—an organization once led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth—are currently on leave while the investigation proceeds.
Reports indicate that Caldwell was removed for an “unauthorized disclosure” related to leaked Pentagon documents. This investigation was announced the previous month, focusing on recent leaks of national security information.
In addressing the situation, DOD Chief of Staff Joe Kasper noted that the investigation will involve polygraph tests and will be conducted in compliance with existing laws and policies. The inquiry reportedly relates to confidential matters, including plans for the Panama Canal and a visit by entrepreneur Elon Musk to the Pentagon.
As of now, no evidence directly ties Selnick or Caldwell to the information leaks, and details surrounding the investigation remain limited.
