Republicans Must Better Understand Average Americans, Says Senator
Washington, D.C. – Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia says that while Republicans have achieved a lot, they need to do a better job of understanding what everyday Americans think.
Justice says Republicans are good at the big things, but sometimes miss what regular folks, who he calls “Toby and Edith,” are concerned about. He believes he knows these average voters well from his time as governor.
His comments come as Congress prepared to leave Washington for the holidays without fixing a problem with Obamacare. Tax credits that help people pay for health insurance are about to expire. This means many Americans could see their healthcare costs go way up.
Justice explained that people understand the healthcare credits were set to expire, but they also think Republicans are now in charge and should fix the problem. He says that if Republicans don’t address these concerns, they are making a mistake.
The Senator said that while Republicans have done a good job overall this year, especially with President Trump leading the way, this healthcare issue could hurt them.
Justice believes a simple extension of the old system isn’t enough. He says the healthcare system needs to be fixed, and President Trump is trying to put money directly in people’s hands instead of just giving it to insurance companies. He added that Republicans need to improve how they talk about these issues to the public.
