The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed that the latest eruptive episode, referred to as episode 11 of the Halema’uma’u eruption, commenced just before 6:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
Initially, the eruption presented itself with small lava fountains reaching heights of 20 to 30 feet, which soon escalated to around 100 feet. Remarkably, within just half an hour, those fountains soared to approximately 400 feet. As the night progressed, the eruption continued with impressive lava displays emerging from both the north and south vents.
Experts noted that the lava fountains at the north vent achieved spectacular heights, with maximum eruptions hitting between 500 and 600 feet before gradually decreasing in intensity.
