Giants Expected to Name John Harbaugh as Head Coach
The New York Giants are reportedly close to finalizing an agreement with John Harbaugh to become their next head coach. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is expected to be completed, pending the finalization of contract terms.
Harbaugh, a seasoned coach with a Super Bowl victory under his belt, became available after parting ways with the Baltimore Ravens. He was let go on January 6th. Following his departure, multiple teams expressed interest in securing his services. Harbaugh had an in-person meeting with the Giants on January 14th, following a week of virtual meetings with several teams.
If the agreement is finalized, the Giants would be the first of several NFL teams with head coaching vacancies to fill their position this offseason.
Harbaugh’s availability made him a highly sought-after candidate. Just 45 minutes after his departure from the Ravens, reports indicated that seven teams had already contacted his agent to discuss potential opportunities.
During his tenure with the Ravens, Harbaugh built an impressive record of 180 wins and 113 losses. His 180 wins rank him among the all-time winningest coaches in NFL history. He also led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory. In addition to his regular season success, Harbaugh has a strong playoff record, with 13 wins.
The Ravens’ decision to move on from Harbaugh came after their Week 18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which ended their playoff hopes. A missed field goal attempt in the final seconds of the game sealed the Ravens’ fate, leaving them with an 8-9 record for the season.
In New York, Harbaugh would be taking over from Brian Daboll, who was let go earlier this season after a disappointing start. Despite the coaching change, the Giants have retained their general manager, Joe Schoen, who is overseeing the search for a new head coach.
The potential hiring of Harbaugh signals a significant move for the Giants as they look to rebuild and improve their performance in the upcoming seasons. His experience and winning record could bring a new level of success to the team.
