Hamilton Returns to Theaters for 10th Anniversary Celebration
In a thrilling announcement, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and original star of the acclaimed musical Hamilton, revealed that the show will return to movie theaters nationwide this September. This event marks the 10th anniversary of Hamilton, which first opened on Broadway on August 6, 2015.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miranda shared, “On September 5, you will be able to see Hamilton in theaters across the country and in Puerto Rico.” This theatrical release follows the musical’s streaming debut on Disney+ in July 2020, which allowed many fans to enjoy the performance from home during the pandemic.
Miranda explained that they had initially filmed much of the original cast performing in 2016, with hopes of a theatrical release. However, due to the challenges posed by the pandemic, they pivoted to a streaming format to ensure it reached as many viewers as possible.
Tickets for the movie are already on sale, and excitement is building for fans who have long awaited this moment. The announcement follows a recent reunion of the original cast at the Tony Awards, where they performed a medley of beloved songs from the musical, highlighting the show’s lasting impact.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Leslie Odom Jr., who famously portrayed Aaron Burr, will also return to the stage for a limited run at New York City’s Richard Rodgers Theatre. This will take place from September 9 to November 23, offering fans a chance to experience the musical live once more.
Odom Jr. expressed his gratitude in a recent statement, emphasizing the significance of returning to Hamilton, especially during its anniversary. “This brilliant piece forever changed my life and the lives of so many,” he reflected.
Hamilton continues to resonate with audiences, showcasing the powerful themes of heritage and ambition intertwined with American history. As this classic celebrates a decade of performances, it’s clear that its influence will endure for years to come.
