Hailee Steinfeld is making her way back into the music scene and sharing insights about her previous break. The talented 28-year-old actress and singer, known for her new role in the action-thriller Sinners, has also contributed a song titled "Dangerous" for its soundtrack. This marks her first musical release in a while, and she is genuinely thrilled about it.
In a talk with Collider, Steinfeld explained her decision to step away from music was tough, but necessary as she wanted to pursue acting. "I was happy to be doing that,” she noted, indicating that acting became her primary focus during that time.
Music has always been an important part of her life. "It’s a love of mine and a huge passion," Steinfeld added, recognizing the profound impact it has had on her journey. She expressed her gratitude for having had the chance to create music over the years.
Steinfeld is not only eager to return to music but is also enthusiastic about her role in Sinners, a film set in the 1930s that features Michael B. Jordan in a unique dual role. She mentioned the significance of music within the film, highlighting how it enhances the storytelling.
"I felt so lucky to be part of a movie where music is such a central theme," she said, expressing her excitement. "This is the dream — to act in a film that is so driven by music. It allows me to dive into something I love."
Reflecting on her time away from music, she shared, “It’s been a long time, and I didn’t realize how much I missed it.”
In the same interview, Steinfeld discussed how vital music is to her character, Mary, who is portrayed as a passionate love interest dealing with the grief of losing her mother. “She will always grieve her loss and seeks comfort through music,” Steinfeld explained. Mary expresses to Stack, one of the twin brothers in the story, her deep connection to music as a way to feel close to her mother.
"The music is her home. The music is her safe space," added Steinfeld, showcasing the emotional weight her character carries.
After her last single, "SunKissing," Steinfeld reflected on her upbringing within the entertainment world and her aspirations for the future. Following her successful series Dickinson, she expressed admiration for Emily Dickinson’s profound writing and the lesson that authenticity in creation is essential.
"I would love to produce more,” she said, sharing her ambition to take on new creative roles. “Directing is something I aspire to explore later, but for now, I want to focus on acting.”
