A shooting incident outside a nightclub in Queens, New York, left ten people injured on New Year’s Day. The event occurred around 11:18 p.m. on January 1 when multiple individuals fired over 30 shots at a group gathered in front of the venue on 144th Place.
According to NYPD Chief Philip Rivera, there is “zero tolerance for these senseless shootings.” He assured the public that those responsible would be caught and held accountable.
The nightclub, known as Amazura, was at full capacity with 90 attendees inside, resulting in a line of about 15 people waiting outside when the shots were fired. Chief Rivera mentioned that three to four suspects shot at the group, hitting several victims in the process.
After the shooting, the suspects reportedly fled in a sedan with out-of-state license plates. Authorities confirmed that among the injured were six females and four males, all of whom were taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover from their injuries.
Chief Rivera urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward, highlighting the public’s important role in helping law enforcement capture dangerous individuals. Although police are looking into the motivations behind the shooting, Rivera clarified that it was not a terrorist act.
Reports indicate that the gathering outside the nightclub was meant to celebrate the birthday of Tae’arion Mungo, a teenager who was tragically killed in Brooklyn in October 2024.
