Two National Guard Members Shot Near White House; Afghan National in Custody
Washington, D.C. – An Afghan national who entered the United States after the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021 is accused of shooting two National Guard members near the White House.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, came to the U.S. under “Operation Allies Welcome” following the withdrawal. Sources reveal Lakanwal had worked with U.S. government entities, including the CIA, as part of a partner force in Afghanistan.
Intelligence sources told that Lakanwal’s prior work with the U.S. government, specifically with the CIA, facilitated his entry into the United States.
Former CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated that this individual, along with others, should not have been allowed into the country, emphasizing the need to protect American citizens and service members from the consequences of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
The FBI is leading the investigation, with sources suggesting the shooting is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism. The two West Virginia National Guardsmen are in critical condition.
President Donald Trump addressed the nation, calling the shooting a “savage attack” and an “act of evil, hatred, and terror.” He assured the public that the perpetrator would face the “steepest possible price.”
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser described the incident as a “targeted shooting” and confirmed the suspect is in custody.
