Headline: Tragic Death of 3-Year-Old Sparks Trial for Parents
In a heartbreaking court case, the mother of a 3-year-old boy shared the horrifying moment she witnessed her son’s tragic death due to a dog attack in Greater Manchester. Joanne Bedford and her partner, Mark Twigg, are facing charges of gross negligence manslaughter related to the incident that occurred in May 2022.
Daniel Twigg lost his life after being attacked by what authorities described as a “dangerous dog” in their home in Rochdale. During their ongoing trial, Bedford described the events of that fateful morning. She had briefly left Daniel in the kitchen with his older sister while she went upstairs to get some clothes.
“I can’t say how long I was gone,” Bedford recalled, tearfully explaining how she was alerted by her daughter’s screams. “Mum, mum, Daniel’s in the pen. He’s face down and he’s got blood everywhere,” her daughter cried out.
Overcome with emotion, Bedford said she rushed to the scene where Daniel lay unresponsive, covered in injuries. “I sat down on the floor next to him and asked my daughter to get my phone for an ambulance,” she testified. “I was terrified for my little boy.”
The court was informed that emergency services faced significant challenges when they arrived, requiring riot shields for protection due to the dogs at the property. The family had only moved into the home a few months prior, in March 2022, to care for the property and the animals of the farm’s owner.
As the trial continues, the outcome remains uncertain, but the painful impact of this tragedy is already deeply felt by all involved.
