House Republicans Discuss Path Forward Amid Funding Disagreement
Washington, D.C. – House Republicans held a conference call Tuesday to discuss the ongoing debate over government funding. During the call, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene voiced concerns to Speaker Mike Johnson regarding the current strategy.
Speaker Johnson has been holding regular calls to update Republican lawmakers on the funding situation, encouraging them to stay in their home districts to connect with their constituents. This approach is aimed at encouraging Senate Democrats to consider the House’s funding proposals.
However, Representative Greene expressed that Republicans staying out of Washington was a missed opportunity. She suggested that the House should be actively working on legislation, particularly on finding a way to address the rising costs of healthcare and the expiring Obamacare subsidies.
Representative Greene emphasized the importance of Republicans fulfilling their duties and not being influenced by the White House. She noted that many people back home are concerned and want to see action from their representatives.
Speaker Johnson defended the work that Republicans have been doing and affirmed his commitment to resolving the funding issue. He assured members that Republican leaders are working hard to find a solution.
The discussion highlighted different views within the Republican Party on how to best address the current funding situation and deliver on the promises made to their voters. Several other House Republicans defended Johnson’s handling of the shutdown.
The House has been out of session since mid-September, after passing a short-term funding bill. This bill was intended to give lawmakers more time to agree on a long-term funding plan, but Senate Democrats have rejected the bill multiple times.
Speaker Johnson maintained that Republicans are still actively engaged, even while not physically in Washington.
