Google is making significant moves to streamline its operations, offering compensation packages to employees across various divisions as part of its cost-cutting measures. According to reports, the company has reached out to staff in its search, advertising, research, and engineering departments.
A Google spokesperson, Courtenay Mencini, confirmed this initiative, explaining that some teams previously introduced a voluntary exit program for U.S.-based employees earlier this year to support future work goals. She noted that additional teams are now implementing similar programs to help with this transition.
Furthermore, the tech giant is encouraging remote employees who live near an office to adopt a hybrid work model aimed at fostering collaboration among teams.
These changes come after Google announced a significant staff reduction in 2023, when it decided to lay off 12,000 employees. This decision was driven by the fading economic surge that had earlier boosted demand for online services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the company navigates this challenging landscape, it shows a clear intention to adapt and prepare for what lies ahead.
