Gerry Turner, the star of “The Golden Bachelor,” is sharing his life story, marked by both joy and challenges. The 74-year-old recently revealed he’s been diagnosed with a slow-growing bone marrow cancer.
Turner, who captured hearts on the reality TV show, says his perspective on life has changed since the diagnosis. Once a driven career man, he now appreciates life’s simple moments and the people around him. “I get to live like I’m dying,” he said, emphasizing a newfound appreciation for life’s joys and sorrows.
His health issue was discovered while seeking treatment for a recurring shoulder problem. Doctors identified Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, a condition affecting white blood cells, more common in older men.
In his new memoir, “Golden Years,” Turner opens up about his experiences, including his brief marriage to Theresa Nist, which ended in divorce earlier this year. He expresses disappointment that Nist didn’t offer more support after his diagnosis.
However, Turner’s story is far from over. He recently announced his engagement to Lana Sutton, finding love again after the loss of his first wife, Toni, who passed away in 2017. He credits his daughters for encouraging him to seek love again after loss of his wife.
Turner emphasizes that it’s never too late to find companionship and happiness. He encourages others to embrace opportunities for connection and maintain a positive outlook. “Don’t say no to anything,” he advises, highlighting the importance of community and staying active.
He is encouraging people to keep an open heart and to not be afraid to seek a relationship.
