Danny Glover and Mel Gibson Reunite for Lethal Weapon 5
In an exciting turn for action movie fans, Danny Glover and Mel Gibson have reunited as they gear up for the fifth installment of the classic Lethal Weapon series. The two iconic actors, who have portrayed the beloved Los Angeles police detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh since the franchise began in 1987, recently appeared together at Fan Expo Philadelphia. This event marked their second reunion this year, nearly four decades after the original film hit theaters.
Gibson, now 69 years old, plays the wild and reckless Riggs, a cop who struggles with the loss of his wife. He is paired with Murtaugh, played by Glover, who often comments on being "too old for this." Despite their differences, the duo becomes a formidable team known for their chemistry and humor.
In 2021, it was confirmed that Gibson would direct Lethal Weapon 5, taking over after the passing of the series’ original director Richard Donner. Gibson shared that Donner had given him his blessing to continue the legacy of the franchise.
Recently, Gibson expressed optimism about the new film’s script, saying, "I think it’s the best of all of them." He noted that while studios are facing some difficulties with production, the screenplay is strong and emotionally engaging.
Adding to the excitement, Glover and Gibson surprised fans earlier this year at MegaCon in Orlando, where they shared the stage, much to the crowd’s delight. Their dynamic has been a staple of the series, which also includes Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. The pair’s chemistry earned them an MTV Movie Award for best on-screen duo in 1993.
While fans eagerly await the release of Lethal Weapon 5, no official premiere date has been announced yet. Nonetheless, the excitement around this iconic duo’s return remains high.
