Melissa Gilbert is reportedly very worried about her husband, Timothy Busfield, who is currently in jail in New Mexico.
Busfield, who is 68 years old, has been charged with serious crimes, including two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.
A source close to Gilbert, who is 61 and known for her role in “Little House on the Prairie,” said that this has been a “nightmare” for her. She is particularly concerned about Busfield’s safety in jail and hopes to get him released on bond soon. The source mentioned that there have been complaints about safety issues at the detention facility where he is being held.
Gilbert and Busfield got married in 2013. The source shared that Gilbert plans to be in New Mexico this week to support her husband.
Busfield was arrested after a warrant was issued alleging he had inappropriate contact with 11-year-old twin boys. These boys were child actors who met Busfield on the set of the TV show “The Cleaning Lady,” where he worked as a director.
During his first court appearance, a judge scheduled a hearing to decide whether Busfield should remain in custody until his trial. If found guilty, Busfield could face up to 15 years in prison.
Prosecutors have also brought up another, separate allegation of sexual abuse against Busfield.
Busfield has denied all the charges. His lawyer stated that he is “absolutely shocked” by the allegations and will defend himself.
Gilbert has shown her support for Busfield, writing a letter to the judge describing him as her “love,” “rock,” and a kind person.
Gilbert’s representative has stated that she will not be speaking publicly about the case during the legal process. Her focus is on supporting her family during this difficult time.
