Timothy Busfield, the actor known from “West Wing,” has been released from jail in New Mexico. This happened on Tuesday, January 20, a week after he turned himself in to the police. He’s been accused of crimes related to child sex abuse, which he denies.
A court hearing took place where the judge decided that Busfield could be released while he waits for his trial. He was released without having to pay bail, but there are some rules he has to follow.
According to his lawyer, Larry Stein, Busfield is doing well after being released. His wife, Melissa Gilbert, is very happy that they can be together again.
Melissa Gilbert was at the court hearing with her mother, son, and Busfield’s brother. She was seen crying and saying “Thank you, God” when the judge announced Busfield’s release.
Gilbert has shown her support for Busfield, whom she married in 2013. After Busfield was charged, Gilbert’s representative said that she stands by her husband. She also wrote a letter to the court asking them to take care of him.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Busfield earlier this month. He was then charged with crimes related to the alleged abuse of two young boys.
Busfield has stated that he did not do anything to the boys and plans to fight the charges.
The judge mentioned that Busfield turned himself in, which showed he was willing to cooperate with the court. The judge also said that the prosecution didn’t prove that Busfield couldn’t be released safely under certain conditions.
Busfield must attend all future court dates. He’s not allowed to have guns, drink alcohol, use illegal drugs, or contact the alleged victims or their families. He also can’t talk about the case with any witnesses or be alone with children without supervision. He can travel, but he’ll be watched by Pretrial Services in New Mexico and has to tell the court where he’s living.
