Gil Gerard, the actor beloved by many for his role as Captain William “Buck” Rogers, has passed away at the age of 82. Gerard died in hospice care on Tuesday, succumbing to a rare and aggressive form of cancer, according to reports.
Gerard’s career took off in the late 1970s with “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.” The show, which ran for two seasons, saw Gerard’s character awaken after 500 years in suspended animation, thrust into a futuristic world. His all-American look and charm made him a hit with audiences.
Before his iconic role, Gerard, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, worked in television commercials. Following “Buck Rogers,” he continued to act in various TV shows and movies.
In a final message shared by his wife, Janet, Gerard reflected on his life: “My life has been an amazing journey,” he wrote, expressing gratitude for the opportunities and love he experienced. He also encouraged fans to focus on things that bring them joy.
