Actress Genevieve Chenneour Opens Up About Coffee Shop Robbery Incident
Genevieve Chenneour, known for her role in Bridgerton, has bravely shared her terrifying experience from four months ago when she was targeted in a coffee shop robbery in London.
In an interview on ITV’s This Morning, the 27-year-old actress recounted the moment she was threatened during the theft, saying it felt like a "battle of life and death." The assailant, identified as 18-year-old Zacariah Boulares, is currently facing charges of theft and assault.
Chenneour was in a Joe & the Juice café in February when her phone was swiped from the table behind her. Footage obtained from the café shows Chenneour chasing after Boulares to reclaim her property. She revealed that prior to the incident, she felt an instinct that something was off but did not realize the danger until it was too late.
Describing her reactions, she said, "I didn’t even remember my reaction. I thought it was way longer than it actually was." When she watched the surveillance footage, the shocking moment unfolded much quicker than she had recalled.
During the altercation, she faced threats and fought back, stating, "I was threatened with being stabbed, so it became a real battle of, in my mind, life and death." She remembered kicking him to create distance in case he had a weapon.
Though she managed to get her phone back, the experience left a lasting impact on her, leading to feelings of anxiety and making it hard for her to leave home. She admitted it has made her quite agoraphobic.
Chenneour also reflected on her quick response to fight back, attributing it to her upbringing with brothers and her boxing training. However, she expressed that she wouldn’t necessarily recommend others to react in the same way, acknowledging that many people might choose not to confront a thief.
Genevieve’s story highlights the instinctive reactions people might have in dangerous situations and serves as a reminder of the reality of theft in everyday life.
