New Leadership at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Focuses on Food Aid
The new chairman of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), Rev. Johnnie Moore, is determined to stay on course despite criticism. His main goal is aimed at ensuring that the people of Gaza receive essential food supplies.
"Our mission is clear: it has nothing to do with Hamas or Israel. It is solely about providing food for the people in Gaza," Moore stated. He took charge on June 3, just as the organization began its food distribution efforts, supported by both Israel and the U.S.
Before GHF launched its operations, it faced pushback, particularly from the United Nations. Critics, including U.N. officials, claimed that existing systems were sufficient for aid distribution. However, Moore believes GHF is stepping in to address shortcomings that the U.N. has failed to solve, particularly regarding the misappropriation of aid by Hamas.
Rather than dwell on the negative comments, Moore invites critics to join GHF’s efforts. He noted that the people receiving aid have expressed deep gratitude, many even thanking President Donald Trump for his support. Moore highlighted a recent promise made by Trump to help improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which resonated with the recipients of the aid.
Moore pointed out that Trump’s remarks in the Oval Office about Hamas mistreating the Gazan people struck a chord. The President’s acknowledgment has made Gazans feel that U.S. efforts, like those of GHF, are a positive step towards addressing their needs.
Both Israeli and U.S. officials have expressed confidence that GHF is the most effective way to provide aid without allowing Hamas to access it. Moore argued that for years, aid organizations faced a dilemma: they believed some aid would inevitably be lost to corrupt practices. GHF aims to prove that it’s possible to deliver aid without falling into that trap.
In light of ongoing tensions, Moore’s leadership seeks to create a direct pathway for aid to reach those in true need. While the UN has faced challenges, including criticism from Israel regarding its interactions with NGOs, GHF remains focused on its mission to deliver food and support to the people of Gaza safely and effectively.
