PARIS — In an exciting showdown at the French Open, the top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka will take on the second-ranked Coco Gauff in the final. This marks a significant moment for both players, as they’re each looking for their first title in this prestigious tournament.
Coco Gauff, now 19, faced disappointment last year when she lost in the French Open final. However, she claimed victory against Sabalenka at the U.S. Open in 2023, which is her only major championship so far. On the other hand, 27-year-old Aryna Sabalenka hails from Belarus. Though she has secured three major titles, this will be her inaugural appearance in a French Open final.
This matchup is particularly special, as it’s the first time since 2013 that the top two players are clashing in the final at Roland Garros. Back then, tennis legend Serena Williams triumphed over Maria Sharapova. In the last 30 years, this is only the second time we’ve seen a No. 1 versus No. 2 final in Paris.
Historically, Sabalenka and Gauff have played against each other ten times, with their wins evenly divided. However, in their recent meeting at the Madrid Open, Sabalenka came out on top on clay, adding to the anticipation for this final showdown.
