FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno State University has taken serious actions regarding its men’s basketball program, announcing the suspension of two top players, Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins, as the university navigates an ongoing eligibility review. Additionally, Mykell Robinson has been removed from the team altogether.
The school has remained tight-lipped, stating that Weaver and Collins will not participate in games while the matter is examined, with no further comments expected at this time. This decision follows reports of internal investigations linked to gambling activities within the program.
In the midst of a challenging season, the Bulldogs are struggling with a record of 5 wins and 23 losses, including a disappointing 1 win in 16 attempts within the Mountain West Conference. They faced the Air Force Academy on Saturday, hoping to end a nine-game losing streak, but fell short, losing 72-69.
Weaver has been an essential part of the team, averaging 12.5 points and leading in assists with 4.7 per game. Collins is not far behind, contributing 12.0 points per game, while Robinson added 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds before his departure. The future of the team is uncertain as investigations continue and they look for a path forward.
