A tragic incident involving a 4-year-old girl has occurred in Indiana, leading to her death and that of a 53-year-old woman. Authorities reported that the woman, identified as Oliva Mora Regalado, suffered a medical emergency at their home, which prompted the response from the local police.
When officers arrived at the house in Huntingburg on April 14, they found both individuals unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Evelynn Lopez, the young girl, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital. Regalado was declared dead at the scene, but investigators have not confirmed how the two were connected.
An investigation revealed that Regalado experienced a health crisis due to a pre-existing medical issue. After this occurred, for reasons still unclear, police believe that dog(s) in the home attacked Evelynn, who was the only other person present.
There were a total of seven dogs in the house, including six Pitbulls and one poodle mix, according to the police. In a controversial move, these dogs were sedated and euthanized at the scene to ensure the safety of those involved and to preserve evidence.
At this point, the police do not anticipate any criminal charges in connection with this incident.
Evelynn’s obituary described her as a “walking ray of sunshine” with “big sparkling eyes” and a laughter that could light up a room. She enjoyed activities like t-ball, soccer, gymnastics, and dance, and cherished cooking time with her mother. Her family emphasized the lasting impact she had on those around her and encouraged others to take moments to cherish their loved ones.
Similarly, Regalado’s family remembered her as a gentle and kind person who dedicated her life to caring for her loved ones. She had a passion for trying new recipes and enjoyed walks and dancing.
