A Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly attacking a 72-year-old man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. Laura Garrett, 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday. She faces several charges, including battery against an elderly person and resisting arrest.
According to police reports, Garrett approached the man at Northeast Park and asked for his views on President Donald Trump. The situation escalated into an argument, during which Garrett reportedly poured a drink on the man’s head and struck him with the can. She later denied hitting him but was found to have jumped a fence to flee the scene.
Officers later located her and reported that she resisted arrest, fighting with police as they tried to place her in handcuffs. The report noted that during the struggle, Garrett caused an officer to fall, leading to a bruise on the officer’s knee.
After her arrest, Garrett was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. She was released the following evening. This incident has drawn attention to the ongoing tensions surrounding political expression, especially for those who openly support President Trump.
