Winter Weather Touches South and North
PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the second year running, parts of the Florida Panhandle experienced a brief taste of winter as snow dusted the ground Sunday morning. A rush of cold air turned the last of the rain into snowflakes, creating a rare winter scene in the Sunshine State.
This follows a similar event last year, when some areas saw even more significant snowfall, a reminder that even southern states can experience the occasional cold snap. The light snow created picturesque scenes, with flakes on beaches and palm trees, though it melted quickly.
Other areas in the South, including parts of Alabama and Georgia, also saw snow, marking the second time in less than a year they’ve experienced such winter weather.
Meanwhile, further north, heavier snowfall was expected in New England. The weather was expected to impact football games in both Boston and Chicago. While the snow in Chicago was not expected to be significant, the frigid temperatures were a major concern for fans and players alike.
