A tragic incident in Bradford County, Florida, has left two young children without their parents. On January 29th, deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call at a home and discovered a devastating scene.
Loyd Alan Kerr, 50, was found dead with a gunshot wound. His estranged wife, Rachael Renee Kerr, 43, was found in the yard with a gunshot wound and later died.
Sheriff Gordon Smith of Bradford County stated that the couple’s two children, ages 9 and 11, were unharmed physically. They are now under the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Reports indicate the shooting was related to an ongoing domestic violence situation between Loyd and Rachael.
Before the tragic events, Rachael reportedly woke up to what she believed was a home invasion and called 911. Loyd then took the children to a vehicle and tried to force Rachael into it, but she managed to escape, though injured.
After she fled, it’s alleged that Loyd asked the children if they wanted to “go to heaven with dad” before shooting himself. The children then ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
Authorities had been called to the home previously, and Rachael had a restraining order against Loyd. He also had pending domestic violence cases and had recently been released from jail on a domestic violence charge.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the children. The page states that the children are now with their uncle, and the money raised will help with expenses such as daily living, clothing, school supplies, counseling, and legal fees.
