Former New York Knicks guard and Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward is on the verge of becoming a college basketball head coach. Charlie Ward, now 54 years old, is well-known for his remarkable achievements in both basketball and football during his time at Florida State University (FSU). In 1993, he won the Heisman Trophy while also leading the FSU football team as quarterback. Ward had an outstanding season, completing nearly 70% of his passes, which translated into 3,032 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, with only four interceptions. He also showcased his versatility by rushing for an additional 339 yards and four touchdowns. Crarey had served as head coach for just one season and led the Rattlers to a record of 14-17 overall and 10-8 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). This marked an eight-game improvement from the previous season, during which the Rattlers struggled with a 6-23 record overall and 4-14 in conference play.
Historically, Florida A&M has faced challenges in reaching a winning season. The last time the Rattlers enjoyed a successful campaign was in 2007 when they qualified for the NCAA tournament as a No. 16 seed while competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
