Joe Flacco Finds New Opportunity with Cincinnati Bengals
Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is set to wear a Cincinnati Bengals uniform this Sunday after a recent trade with the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals acquired Flacco and a sixth-round draft pick in exchange for a fifth-round pick, according to reports released on Tuesday.
Flacco, a Super Bowl champion, addressed the media on Friday, sharing his thoughts on his continued drive to compete in the National Football League (NFL). “You only get a chance to play in the NFL once. I feel like I’ve worked really hard to be a guy that gets to play in the NFL, and I don’t want to take that for granted,” Flacco told reporters. “I still feel like I can play the game at a high level, and I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror when I’m 50 years old and say that I gave it everything I had.”
The Bengals have named Flacco as their starting quarterback for their Week 6 game against the Green Bay Packers. He expressed his surprise at the recent turn of events, describing it as “Crazy business.” He added, “You have to be ready for anything. That’s kind of what it was. Definitely didn’t have this on my list of things that were gonna happen. But, hey, that’s this league. And I’m a player. I think most players would say the same thing. I like to play football. If that’s in Cincinnati right now, then I’m all for it.”
The Bengals’ quarterback situation has been uncertain since their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, suffered a toe injury earlier in the season. Backup quarterback Jake Browning has taken over. Burrow underwent surgery last month but has the possibility of returning later in the season.
Flacco mentioned that he has been in contact with Burrow. “I feel like I have a lot to offer a football team,” Flacco said. “I feel like I’ve put in a lot of work to this point. I feel like I’ve worked really hard to be a guy that gets to play in the NFL. I still feel like I can play the game at a high level.”
Before joining the Bengals, Flacco started four games for the Browns, achieving a 1-3 record. Notably, he led the Browns to a comeback win against the Green Bay Packers. His first game with the Bengals will be a rematch against the Packers.
Following Flacco’s departure, Dillon Gabriel has been named the Browns’ starting quarterback for Week 5. Shedeur Sanders is listed as the backup quarterback. The Browns are scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
