Indiana Fever Stages Remarkable Comeback to Defeat Connecticut Sun
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, the Indiana Fever pulled off an impressive comeback, overcoming a 21-point deficit to defeat the Connecticut Sun 99-93 in overtime. Kelsey Mitchell was the standout player, scoring a remarkable 34 of her total 38 points in the second half alone.
Alongside Mitchell, Odyssey Sims contributed significantly with 19 points and seven assists, while Natasha Howard added 18 points to the scoreboard for Indiana, who now have a record of 19 wins and 16 losses. Aliyah Boston also had a strong performance, finishing with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists.
In a gripping overtime period, Mitchell accounted for all of Indiana’s points, including a pair of crucial three-pointers that helped establish an early lead. Lexie Hull sealed the victory with a timely corner three-pointer with 44.9 seconds left to play.
For Connecticut, Marina Mabrey led the team with 27 points, while Tina Charles netted 21. Saniya Rivers also showcased her skills with 15 points and five blocks, and rookie Leïla Lacan recorded a season-high 14 assists.
The game started strong for Indiana, with Sims scoring back-to-back layups to give them an early 4-1 lead. However, Connecticut quickly took control, scoring 12 consecutive points. By the third quarter, the Sun had built their largest lead at 54-33, holding a 74-60 advantage with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.
As the clock ticked down, Mitchell executed a crucial three-point play that tied the game at 82-82. Despite a late jumper from Charles, Boston answered back with a basket that ultimately forced overtime.
In the second quarter, Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham was sidelined with a knee injury and was unable to return. Additionally, Caitlin Clark missed her 13th consecutive game due to a groin issue.
Looking ahead, the Sun will visit Washington on Tuesday, while the Fever will host Minnesota on Friday.
