FBI Embraces Artificial Intelligence to Fight Threats
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is increasing its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to better protect Americans from danger, both at home and abroad.
Kash Patel, director of the FBI, recently shared that the agency sees AI as a vital tool. By using AI, the FBI hopes to stay one step ahead of those who wish to harm the country.
“The FBI has been working on key technology advances to keep us ahead of the game and respond to an always changing threat environment both domestically and on the world stage,” Patel said. “Artificial intelligence is a key component of this.”
The FBI is currently developing an AI project with the goal of helping FBI investigators and analysts in their work related to national security. The goal is to identify potential threats before they can cause harm.
Furthermore, a “technology working group” has been formed within the FBI, led by Deputy Director Dan Bongino, to make sure the agency’s technological tools keep up with its mission. Bongino will be leaving the bureau in January.
“These are investments that will pay dividends for America’s national security for decades to come,” Patel noted.
The FBI already uses AI in different ways, such as to recognize vehicles, understand different languages, and analyze videos. By expanding its use of AI, the FBI aims to be more effective in its mission to protect the nation.
