FBI Closes Investigation into Trump Assassination Attempt, Concludes Assailant Acted Alone
WASHINGTON – After a thorough investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the conclusion of its inquiry into the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump last year. The FBI’s findings indicate that the perpetrator, Thomas Matthew Crooks, acted alone, and the agency has found no discernible motive for his actions.
FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino addressed the public, emphasizing the comprehensive nature of the investigation. Their statements came shortly after the release of a documentary by commentator Tucker Carlson, which explored the possibility of foreign influence in the attack.
“We left no stone unturned in this case,” stated Bongino. “We spoke with the families involved, and the President himself. We want to assure the public that there has been complete transparency throughout this process. The evidence clearly shows there was no conspiracy and no hidden agenda behind the actions of Mr. Crooks.”
The incident occurred on July 23, 2024, when Crooks infiltrated a presidential rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He managed to gain access to the roof of the venue, where he fired a shot that grazed President Trump’s ear. Tragically, the gunfire also resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer firefighter and father of two, who was attending the rally. Secret Service agents on the scene immediately neutralized Crooks, preventing further harm.
Director Patel emphasized the importance of upholding the rights of the victims, including President Trump. “From the outset, our priority was to ensure that President Trump, as a victim in this case, received the full support and consideration he deserved. Victim’s rights apply to everyone, regardless of their position.”
According to Patel, the President was fully briefed on the investigation’s findings. “We presented all the details of our investigation to the President at the White House. He expressed his satisfaction with the thoroughness of our work and the conclusions we reached.”
Another FBI official who was directly involved in the investigation, spoke about the examination of Crooks’s digital footprint.
“We delved into every aspect of Crooks’s online presence, analyzing 35 accounts, including social media, bank records, and other online activities,” the official explained. “Despite claims to the contrary, we were able to access all of his accounts, dispelling any rumors about encryption hindering our investigation. We secured access within days of the attack and collaborated with international partners to gather information from foreign accounts.”
The FBI official affirmed the absence of any foreign involvement, saying, “Whenever we encountered potential connections to overseas entities, we immediately reached out to foreign governments. However, our investigation found no evidence of foreign governments or individuals directing, inspiring, or assisting Crooks in any way, either within or outside the United States.”
The FBI’s announcement follows reports about Crooks’s online interactions with a user known as “Willy_Tepes,” linked to the Nordic Resistance Movement, a designated foreign terrorist organization. Carlson’s documentary highlighted Crooks’s online posts advocating political violence, which were seemingly encouraged by “Willy_Tepes.”
In one instance, Crooks wrote, “The only way to fight the gov is with terrorism style attacks, sneak a bomb into an essential building and set it off before anyone sees you, track down any important people/politicians/military leaders etc. and try to assassinate them.” In response, “Willy_Tepes” replied, “If a gun and a badge is all that is needed, then authority obviously comes from the barrel of a gun. We have more guns than they do ;).”
Despite these concerning interactions, the FBI’s investigation concluded that Crooks acted alone. The agency’s findings provide closure to a troubling chapter, reinforcing the importance of vigilance and the protection of our leaders, while acknowledging the tragic loss of life that occurred.
