A man from the UK has been handed a 30-year prison sentence after he attempted to murder a 9-year-old girl outside his home. Jordan Wilkes, 29, was found guilty of attempted murder and possessing a knife.
The shocking incident took place in Christchurch, Dorset, in August 2024. According to reports, Wilkes used a penknife to stab the girl multiple times, injuring her in the jaw, shoulder, and knee while she was playing with a friend in the stairwell of their building.
Wilkes’s attack left a lasting impact, as he reportedly pulled out some of the girl’s hair during the assault and kept it as a “trophy” for a while before his mother made him dispose of it. The young girl was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors treated her for her serious injuries.
The court heard that Wilkes nearly caused fatal damage by almost hitting major arteries in the girl’s neck. After his arrest, authorities found disturbing evidence on his phone, including 69 files containing videos, articles, and podcasts about child murders, indicating a troubling interest in such crimes.
The investigation revealed that he was particularly interested in a tragic case from Southport, England, where three young girls had been murdered just a month prior. One of those victims, a 6-year-old named Bebe King, suffered over 120 stab wounds.
During the sentencing, the judge labeled Wilkes as a “dangerous offender,” emphasizing his disturbing fascination with harming children. In addition to the 30-year sentence, Wilkes will serve two more years for knife possession and five years on probation after his release.
