Family Remembers Fallen Firefighter One Year After Tragic Shooting
The family of Corey Comperatore is reflecting on their heartbreaking loss one year after he was fatally shot at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Corey, a 50-year-old firefighter and father, was attending the event on July 13, 2024, when the shooting occurred.
Corey’s wife, Helen, shared her struggles since losing her husband, stating, “I had to learn how to live without my best friend.” After 34 years together, she is now navigating life as a single parent. Their daughters, Kaylee and Allyson, are also grappling with the reality of their father’s absence. Allyson expressed, “I just feel like the days have been so long, but yet, here we are. It’s hard to grasp that amount of time has actually gone by.”
In a heartfelt move, the family is organizing “Corey’s Cruise,” a nearly 50-mile motorcycle ride to honor him. The event is set to take place in West Deer Township and aims to celebrate Corey’s legacy. Kaylee stated that planning the cruise has given them purpose as they prepared weekly, and the ride will feature fireworks, live music, and memories like driving their dad’s old Ford Mustang convertible. “It’s bittersweet,” she said. “Of course, I wish my dad was here… But it means the world that people know my dad’s name and want to come celebrate him.”
Helen mentioned that she still feels like she is at the start of her healing journey. She has expressed her desire to understand more about the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, particularly regarding the Secret Service’s response that day. “I want to know why they failed. What happened?” she asked.
As part of the event, funds raised will support local first responders, Corey’s church, and a Dobermann rescue organization. The family hopes that, through this gathering, they can keep Corey’s spirit alive in their community.
