Shannon Sharpe, the former NFL tight end and broadcaster, will not be returning to ESPN, according to a source familiar with the situation. This news comes shortly after Sharpe settled a lawsuit that made accusations against him regarding his conduct during a previous relationship.
Sharpe last appeared on ESPN in late April, around the time the lawsuit was filed in Nevada. The lawsuit was seeking $50 million in damages, but details about the settlement have not been made public. Sharpe, who is 57 years old, had previously described the allegations as “false and disruptive” and had hoped to be back on air for the NFL season.
Instead, ESPN has decided to part ways with the outspoken four-time All-Pro tight end, who enjoyed significant success in his 14-year playing career, including three Super Bowl victories.
After retirement, Sharpe was known for his regular presence on television and social media. In 2023, he left FS1’s debate show “Undisputed” to join ESPN, where he contributed to the morning show “First Take.” As he steps away from ESPN, it marks a notable shift in the sports broadcasting landscape.
