Leonardo DiCaprio’s name has come up in files related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. These files were recently released by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ released millions of documents related to the criminal investigations into Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 and charged with sex trafficking.
One email, sent to Epstein by Peter Mandelson, a former British ambassador, asked if Epstein knew of any companies outside the U.S. that might want Leonardo DiCaprio to promote their products. Mandelson wondered if companies in places like India, China, Japan, or Russia might be interested in having DiCaprio endorse their products.
Previously, DiCaprio’s name was mentioned in connection to Epstein as one of the celebrities Epstein would “name drop.”
One of Epstein’s accusers, Johanna Sjoberg, claimed that Epstein often talked about his connections to famous Hollywood actors. She said that while she never met Cate Blanchett or Leonardo DiCaprio, Epstein would sometimes say he had just been on the phone with them.
However, representatives for both DiCaprio and Blanchett have denied that they ever spoke to Epstein.
While many celebrities have been mentioned in the Epstein files, they have not been accused of helping Epstein in any way.
Mandelson, who was fired from his ambassador job because of his connection to Epstein, also received payments from Epstein’s bank accounts. Mandelson claims he doesn’t remember receiving the money and doesn’t know if the documents are real. He said he regrets his association with Epstein and apologized to the women who suffered.
Epstein was accused of sexually abusing many women before he died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
