Billionaire Elon Musk recently shared his thoughts on the future of work, suggesting that advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics could lead to a world where working is optional within the next 10 to 20 years. Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum, Musk outlined his vision of a future where the concept of work transforms significantly.
He believes that if technology continues to progress, the nature of work will change, much like sports or games. “It’ll be like playing sports,” Musk said, emphasizing that some people might still choose to work because they enjoy it, similar to how some opt to grow their own vegetables rather than just buying them from the store.
Musk hinted at a future where money might become irrelevant due to the rise of AI and robotics. In a world driven by technological advancement, he foresees a shift where currency may no longer hold the same value it does today.
While Musk remains optimistic about the potential of AI and robotic technologies to reshape society, he acknowledged that reaching this future will take significant effort. He stated that challenges related to power, electricity, and resources will still exist, but the overarching impact of AI could redefine how we understand work and wealth.
Currently, Musk and his company, Tesla, are leading the charge in developing humanoid robots, like their Optimus model. He expressed his belief that this industry could be larger than even cellphones, indicating a wide-reaching impact on our daily lives.
Musk concluded with a strong assertion: “AI and robotics will eliminate poverty,” suggesting that these technologies could provide essential advancements that benefit everyone, ultimately making wealth more accessible.
