DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Billionaire Elon Musk has affirmed his commitment to remain the CEO of Tesla for the next five years, despite facing significant challenges with consumers and stock prices amid his involvement in politics, particularly his work with former President Donald Trump.
During a recent video appearance at the Qatar Economic Forum, hosted by Bloomberg, Musk responded to questions about his future at Tesla. When asked if he would still be in charge of the company in five years, he confidently stated, “Yes.” He added with a chuckle, “I can’t be still here if I’m dead,” indicating his firm stance.
Tesla’s pressures have escalated as Musk collaborates with Trump in an initiative aimed at increasing government efficiency, even as the automaker navigates a challenging business environment. When asked if he had second thoughts about his political engagement, he paused briefly before declaring, “I did what needed to be done,” stressing that he has never resorted to violence, yet faced significant threats against his companies and personal safety.
Musk, who has supported Trump’s election with substantial donations, remarked that he plans to reduce his political contributions going forward, stating, “I think I’ve done enough.”
Regarding his future with Tesla, Musk mentioned concerns over maintaining control of the company, particularly as they explore the development of advanced humanoid robots. He emphasized that his focus isn’t just on financial gain but on having “sufficient voting control” to protect the company’s direction from potential activist investors.
His remarks reflect Musk’s determination to navigate the challenges ahead while keeping a strong hand on Tesla’s future.
